Seuss Stuff

I realize my youngest son is now 4 months old... and his nursery is still not finished... what can I say, I am a procrastinator through and through.

But time is not my friend seeing as I have so little of it with a toddler and a 4 month old. So I have to make progress when I can... it's been kind of a sloooow go.

However, the past week I did accomplish something in 'Seussland,' and I am in love with it!

I knew from the beginning that I wanted a floating shelf in baby Drew's room, and I fell in love with one that I spotted at Pottery Barn.
Oh yes, she is beautiful! But I did not like her $85 price tag =/ just a little too steep for a shelf in my son's nursery.

So I went on the hunt for something within my budget. Goodwill to the rescue!
Obviously she had seen better days, but I believed I could restore her to her former glory. And for $6, I was thrilled with my 4-foot find.

After some primer and a coat of paint she now proudly graces my son's nursery.

I purchased the shelf and all of its decor for much cheaper than what the Pottery Barn shelf alone cost.
I got the black frame, the two letters (which stand for Andrew,) and the little, red box all from Hobby Lobby...all on sale. The white frame came from Wal-Mart. It was just a plain, wooden $3 frame that I painted white and scuffed up a bit.

The Seuss pictures are actually fabric left over from Drew's Seuss quilt that I starched, ironed and framed.

I love the way it turned out... and I can honestly say I take way more pride in my frugal finds than I would have if I'd forked over 85 bucks for the Pottery Barn beauty.

Happy Thrifting!

Pinteresting Things- Fall Edition!

In the spirit of the upcoming season, Fall >my favorite<, I have been on the hunt for some terrific Fall pins. And Pinterest has not disappointed!

This, quite possibly, is the most beautifully decorated pumpkin I have ever laid eyes on. I love everything about it, but mostly its simplicity. It's not over the top but it still looks gorgeous. I am in love with it. Who knew a person could be so obsessive over a pumpkin?

I love the idea of displaying your pumpkins on candlesticks. And you can customize your precious punkins to suit your style. A definite winner!

Okay, this one is just plain awesome!! Though they may look like festive Fall pillows, they were originally... PLACEMATS! Crazy right?! You just tear open the seam, stuff it, and hand sew the section you opened back up. Maybe I am just easily impressed... but my mind was blown. Cute throw pillows on the cheap! Winner!

You cannot talk about Fall favorites and not include soup because... well, because you simply can't have one without the other. Fall and soup are like peanut butter & jelly. They just go together. This particular recipe comes from Disneyland's Carnation Café. I am really excited to try this one!

This Caramel Cheesecake Apple Dip looks absolutely divine. The perfect dessert to sweeten up those taste buds after a warm, hearty meal. Another great pin!

I am looking so so forward to the most fabulous season of all.

Candy Bouquet Gift Basket

For my Dad's birthday this year, I decided to do a gift basket filled with some of his favorite candy and snacks. I had so much fun putting it together!
All you need:
1. Gift basket or any other crafty thing you can find to fill up with candy
2. Styrofoam cube
3. Hot glue gun
4. Glue dots
5. Craft sticks or dow rods of various sizes
6. Tissue Paper
And of course....

I picked up all of my Dad's favorites! I also added a little something extra....
I found a tutorial on how to fold money into polo shirts here

You simply hot glue your snackity snacks onto the crafts sticks... I did run across some items that I wasn't comfortable with using hot glue on, and that's where the glue dots came in to play. And they held!

Now the fun part... well at least it was my favorite part... arranging the goodies! I think the picture is pretty self explanatory... ya just stick the sticks down into the styrofoam! Easy, peasy!

Can ya spot the little polo shirt? Isn't he just adorable?!

Voila!

Hope ya'll had a great weekend!

Pinterest, Baby!

So, I really don't feel the need to explain what Pinterest is... because everyone and their Momma has either heard of or uses this amazing site!

I'm obsessed... like seriously, seriously obsessed.

Hi, my name is Amanda and I'm a Pin-aholic!

And here are some of my favorite as of now pins!

Shabby Chic Pom Poms by Southern Belle Soul, Mountain Bride Heart
Can we talk about how adorable this entire collection is?! Best part... she includes a tutorial for each and every one. I think a trip to the craft store is in order immediately!

>I am drooling<

If these babies taste half as good as they look it could be very dangerous for my diet. This is the perfect quick and easy (yet yummy) dinner dish. From start to finish, it takes only 30 minutes... and after reviewing the recipe, it looks super simple to make. >adding it to our weekly menu<

I have seen tons of tutorials on how to make your own chalkboards...>and I have pinned several of them< So I was elated to find this little gem! No matter how fabulous your DIY chalkboard turns out, you just can't do it justice without that uber adorable handwriting. Which I do not have. This lady has got skills... BUT she lets you in on all of her little tricks >smart<... I'm pretty confident that I can now draw on a chalkboard with the best of 'em!

Well, this list could keep going...and going...and going

But for lack of time, I will leave you with those three... this week's holy trinity of pins!

Free Printable

In my last post I mentioned a couple of our home projects going on around here, as of right now our "to-do" list is pretty long. It doesn't help that I keep adding things to that list... it's all pinterest's fault, I swear! My hubby has looked at some of his to-do's and expressed concern in his 'handyman' ability... to which I have replied with encouragement... and perhaps batted my eyelashes a bit.... and threw in a few 'pretty pretty please's' :) And to show him just how much I believed in his abilities, I made a special trip to Lowe's and surprised him with some new power tools! You would have thought I had just told him he had won the lottery.... Boys and their toys...

Anyways, with all of these projects that we are trying to tackle organization has been key! I will jot down an idea and sketch out some plans but in the beginning it was all so chaotic.. So I went on the hunt for something to help keep our to do lists organized...

...and it doesn't hurt that it is completely adorable!

I found this lovely little printable (that is totally FREE) over at IHeart Organizing and she has tons more cute printables that are absolutely free! So click on the link and check them out!
